Partially inflated balloon sprayed with blue and black Mason stains. Agitated with a pallette knife, then fully inflated and allowed to partially dry. A couple of inflation and deflation cycles followed.

Cobalt

Texture created on a balloon using multiple inflation and deflation cycles. Cobalt solution sprayed intermittently. Transferred onto the outer surface of a porcelain cup.

Candy

An almost fully delfated balloon sprayed with red Mason solution and then allowed to partially dry. Full inflation followed, resulting in the creation of unstained porcelain stripes.

Heart

Slip applied to a semi-inflated balloon and sprayed with red Mason stain solution. Fully inflated. More slip applied in places. Several inflation and deflation cycles.

Jelly Fish

Slip applied to a fully inflated balloon. Sprayed lightly with red and yellow Mason stain. Lengthy drying period followed by a single deflation.

Flame

Created using a palette knife on a fully inflated balloon. Sprayed with red and yellow Mason stains. Single deflation.

Sodium Silicate Runs

Slip applied to fully inflated balloon, sprayed with black Mason stain and allowed to partially dry. Sprayed again with red Mason stain dissolved in sodium silicate. Allowed to dry partially and then deflated. The greater stiffness of the sodium silicate created the ladder textural effects.

Yellow

Created using a palette knife on a fully inflated balloon. Yellow Mason stain. Single deflation following almost no drying time.

Mason Stain Run

Modifying a porcelain slip for balloon casting produces some interesting effects when the semi-dried slip is prayed with Mason stains.

Tormented

Created by agitating slip on a fully inlfated balloon. Multiple inflation and deflation cycles

Crunch Time

Porcelain slip manipulated and sprayed lightly with black Mason stain. Multiple inflation and deflation cycles, including water sprayed onto the balloon at almost complete deflation. Final inflation followed by very long drying time. Final deflation created a heavily distressed surface.

Fragments

Porcelain leaves individually created using a perforated palette knife on a balloon. Sprayed with black Mason stain solution. Single deflation following almost no drying time. Transferred onto a fully inflated balloon followed by a single deflation.
